What problem does your company want to solve? :
The lack of access to quality education in Liberia, which resulted from 14 years of civil war, and has been worsened by the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
What solution does your company provide? :
Weeglo is a software development company founded in Liberia in 2019, with a mission to make technology a way of life in Africa and a vision to better people's lives through the use of technology.
Describe your project :
For the past 6 years, the average failure rate amongst senior high students in the regional WASSCE exams has been 60%. In comparison with other countries in the region, Liberia’s performance has been severely poor. In 2018, a total of 33,272 candidates sat the senior exam and 20,343 failed all the subjects; only two (2) passed both mathematics and English. Similarly, in 2019 a total of 39,580 candidates sat the senior exam but only 406 of them passed with credit in both mathematics and English. There were 12,329 candidates who failed in all the nine subjects. Weeglo aims to provide access to quality education in a way that will be cost-effective, reliable, equitable, sustainable, and innovative through the introduction of a cross-platform e-learning solution for the education system in Liberia. This platform will enable schools manage everything including classroom activities, grading system, registration, payment system, online testing, live video meetings, live video teaching and more. It will allow students, teachers, administrators, educators and parents to interact as well as access educational resources such as the national curriculum, course guides, course notes, lesson plans, schedules, eBooks, e-libraries, and other supplementary digital learning resources from their personal mobile and computer devices. The project is divided into three phases. Phase I of this project has been rolled out and in active use, with over 7000 downloads in Google Play Store.
